RV tips and maintenance
There are a lot of people who cross off the idea of owning an RV because of common misconceptions like, "It's too expensive to do that" or "I can't make money living on the road". While these are good concerns to have, they are both myths that are about to be busted! Keep on scrolling to see 6 RV myths busted in 4 sentences of less!
Generators with very few hours on them are an added value when buying used
False! RV generators are like car engines, they need to be turned on/started up every once in awhile to make sure everything still turns on. When buying a used RV, it can seem like a deal is too good to be true. The price is low, it looks brand new, and the generator has only a few hours on it. When buying a used RV ask them how much longer they think the generator will be good for or maybe even have them test it out on the lot before you buy.
My truck has factory-installed sway control. I don’t need any added sway control or stabilizers
False! Most vehicles now a days have sway control to help keep your car from hydroplaning when the ground is slick and to help keep you from skidding on roads. However, the factory installed sway control on your vehicle is meant only for your vehicle, it does not account for the people who plan to hook a boat, RV, or another car on the back. Here is an example of the needed equipment to attach to your vehicle in order to safely tow your brand new RV: Husky Stabilizer
RVing is only for retired people
False! There are a lot of younger people who are starting to live their life on the road. While people who buy $500,000 to $1,000,000 motorhomes tend to be older because they have the funds saved up to make that kind of purchase, young people (mid 20s- early 30s) are purchasing fifth wheels and other RVs because they are either cheaper or the same price of a brand new car. Check out Eat See RV on YouTube and see how anyone, at any age can go RVing!
RVs are too expensive
False (to an extent): As mentioned in the previous section; RVs (as in fifth-wheels and trailers) are about the same price as a car. However, motorhomes are rather expensive and purchasing one of those is a bigger barrier to breach because of the price tag. When it comes to getting a great RV at a great cost make sure you always check us out first! We have a great selection of RVs for people who are just starting out and also for those who have been at it for awhile and want an upgrade. In either case, make sure you let our other branch of Motorhomes of Texas, RV Outfitters of Texas, outfit your next adventure.
You can't make a living on the road
False! Even though you might be in a new state every couple of weeks/months, there are still jobs that can be achieved while traveling. However, you will most likely need to pay for internet in your RV to do most "normal" jobs. Some examples of jobs are being park hosts at state parks, where you make sure that everyone is following the park rules and keeping the park clean. Some people even film their adventures and post them on YouTube and they get sponsors or ad revenue from the videos. There are lots of ways to get paid to travel! Who wouldn't be in?
You can use the bathroom or sleep in the RV while it is in tow
False! This one is quite simple because it is illegal to do either of those two things while the RV is in tow. It is illegal because most states have a seatbelt law, which you would be breaking if you were roaming around a trailer while it was in tow. While it might seem like a good idea to sleep in a fifth-wheel while it is being towed it is actually very dangerous! Always wait for your trailer to be hooked up at a campsite or trailer park before you take a quick nap or a quick bathroom break.
