Warm weather is a favorite time to break out the RV and hit your favorite campground, but sometimes it’s just too hot to have fun with it. Especially here in the South, you might need to help your AC along if it’s there at all! That’s why we here at Motorhomes of Texas have put together some tips for keeping you and your RV cool on a warm day. For more help, or to see the RVs we have for sale, contact our store in Nacogdoches, Texas, today!

Park Strategically

Take a little extra time on your arrival to park your RV in just the right spot. Whenever possible, try to angle it so that windows face north and south rather than east and west, which will minimize direct sunshine inside. If there’s a shaded area, try to park in it, and if you have an awning, extend it for a little extra shade outside.

Ventilate

Unless you want to blast the AC all day, you’ll have to rely on simple ventilation to keep the RV interior from getting hot and stuffy. Open up the windows on the side of your camper that’s best shielded from the sun and keep windows shut on the sunniest side. Use box fans to improve air circulation and make sure your RV’s vents are open to let the hot air out. Just make sure they’re covered!

Cover Windows

While we’re on the topic, letting in any light through windows is bound to heat things up a bit. Try a reflective bubble film to deflect light a bit, and try to keep any closed windows covered with curtains or blinds during the day. Natural light is great, but blocking it out will help keep things cool.

Cook Outside

Obviously, no matter how good the air circulation is, cooking inside is going to turn your whole RV into an oven. When possible, try to take the cooking outdoors. After all, what’s a good camping trip without a nice grill or open campfire cooking? If you have to cook indoors, try to keep it to cool meals like sandwiches or salads, or use something like a pressure cooker to minimize the escaping heat.

Make A Swamp Cooler

If you have no AC at all and the above tips just aren’t enough, make yourself a swamp cooler. Fill a bucket or cooler with ice with just a bit of water, then place a fan next to it. As the ice melts and the water evaporates, the fan will blow the cooled air around your RV to reduce the heat just a bit. This doesn’t work as well when it’s humid out, but on dry days it’s a life-saver.

We hope these tips help you and yours stay cool! For more ways to beat the heat, or to see the RVs we have in stock, contact us at Motorhomes of Texas. We proudly serve the people of Lufkin and Henderson, Texas—let us serve you today!
