Healthy RV Living Tips

Lifestyle

It can be hard to keep up an active and healthy lifestyle when you are traveling. Before you start your travels this season, check out our ten tips that can help keep you in shape and eating right while on the road.

Tip 1: Go Hiking

Hiking is a great activity for families to spend time together and will help relieve any stress that occurred while traveling. Hiking also helps reduce risk of heart disease, high blood pressure, and stroke. Hiking trails can be found at almost all State or National parks.

Tip 2: Eat Fruits and Vegetables That Are In Season

Purchasing produce that is in season has two major benefits: fruits and vegetables in season will taste better and contain more nutrition, and you help out local farms and farmers when you buy from them. Visit the Seasonal Food Guide website to see what is in season in your area.

Tip 3: Get a Monthly Gym Membership

If you are a full time motorhome traveler, a gym chain with national locations (like Anytime Fitness) allows members to go to any of their facilities — perfect for those constantly on the move.

Tip 4: Plan Meals Ahead

Since limited space is one of the biggest factors in a motorhome, planning meals a week or two in advance saves space in the kitchen and reduces grocery store trips. This also helps you maintain a healthy diet because you can find meals that you enjoy and that are good for you too.

Tip 5: Walk Your Four-Legged Friends

Traveling can be hard on pets due to limited space and constant motion. Experts suggest walking your pet every 2 hours during a road trip. Walking your pet an hour or so a day also keeps you active!

Tip 6: Stretch Your Legs Every Hour and a Half

Stopping every hour and a half to walk around is always a good idea. It will help keep you from feeling drowsy and will prevent muscle cramps and overall fatigue that long drives can bring.

Tip 7: Get a Good Night's Rest

Before you hit the road, make sure you get at least 8 hours of sleep. Driving a motorhome with little sleep is especially dangerous because your visibility can be limited. Safety first!

Tip 8: A Healthy Body Is a Happy Body

Always remember to stay hydrated, take vitamins if needed, and wear sunscreen — especially under that Texas sun. If you are hydrated, have your needed nutrition, and don't get sunburned, long-haul travels will be a breeze.

Tip 9: Have a Monthly Clean Out Your Motorhome Session

Schedule a day every month or so to do a thorough motorhome clean out so that your home away from home will be ready for your next adventure!
