Using and Enjoying Your Motorhome to Work Remotely

Lifestyle

Many travelers and full-timers choose to combine business with pleasure and work remotely from their motorhome "office." Known as digital nomads, many are working outside the confines of typical workspaces, which allows them to schedule work around travel and incorporate rest and adventure into a typical work week. With more people working remotely in their motorhomes and RVs, here are some tips for making it work:

Designate a Work Space

Having a designated work space helps with productivity and creating a work routine. Consider using your dinette or purchasing a motorhome with a built-in desk. If you already own a motorhome, consider remodeling an area to fit a desk.

Have Designated Work Hours

In addition to a designated workspace, set your business hours. When working remotely there's a temptation to always be working, including nights and weekends. To avoid burnout, keep designated hours for work.

Utilize Remote Work Tools

The most important tool you'll need is high-speed internet access with a good data plan, as well as cloud storage and surge protectors for your equipment. Consider team-oriented apps like Slack, Canva, and Dropbox that allow for easy sharing of files and ideas.

Stay Connected

Working remotely can sometimes feel isolating. Use tools like Zoom or FaceTime to stay in touch with friends, family, and colleagues. Joining RV forums and groups for professionals in your industry also helps.

Don't Forget to Leave the Office

Set aside time each day or week for being "out of office" so you can enjoy the benefits of working remotely. Silence notifications and explore your surroundings to enjoy the great outdoors.

Many travelers and full-timers describe life on the road as "living the dream" — having the flexibility to work remotely from your motorhome is just one of the many benefits of ownership.
