Common RVing Misconceptions
There are a lot of people who cross off the idea of owning an RV because of common misconceptions. Keep reading to see 6 RV myths busted!
Myth 1: Generators with very few hours on them are an added value when buying used
False! RV generators are like car engines — they need to be turned on and started up every once in a while to make sure everything still works. When buying a used RV, a low-hour generator can seem like a deal, but it may actually signal neglect. When buying a used RV, ask how much longer they think the generator will be good for, or have them test it on the lot before you buy.
Myth 2: My truck has factory-installed sway control. I don't need any added sway control or stabilizers
False! Most vehicles now have sway control to help keep your car from hydroplaning or skidding. However, the factory installed sway control on your vehicle is meant only for your vehicle — it does not account for the people who plan to hook a boat, RV, or another car on the back. Make sure you have the proper additional sway control equipment to safely tow your RV.
Myth 3: RVing is only for retired people
False! There are a lot of younger people who are starting to live their life on the road. While people who buy $500,000 to $1,000,000 motorhomes tend to be older, young people in their mid-20s to early 30s are purchasing fifth wheels and other RVs because they are either cheaper or the same price as a brand new car.
Myth 4: RVs are too expensive
False (to an extent)! RVs like fifth-wheels and trailers are about the same price as a car. Motorhomes are more expensive, but there are great options at all price points. We have a great selection of RVs for people who are just starting out and also for those who want an upgrade.
Myth 5: You can't make a living on the road
False! Even though you might be in a new state every couple of weeks or months, there are still jobs that can be achieved while traveling. Some options include being a park host at state parks, working remotely, or even filming your adventures and earning ad revenue on YouTube. There are lots of ways to get paid to travel!
Myth 6: You can use the bathroom or sleep in the RV while it is in tow
False! This one is actually illegal. It is against the law in most states because of seatbelt laws, which you would be breaking if you were roaming around a trailer while it was in tow. It is also very dangerous. Always wait for your trailer to be hooked up at a campsite or trailer park before taking a bathroom break or a nap.
