For most people, Thanksgiving meal prep requires an entire full size kitchen or multiple full size kitchens. In today's blog we will be discussing tips and tricks on how to prepare a Thanksgiving meal with the limited amount of space your RV has. Also, Thanksgiving is one week away, so it's time to start getting everything ready!

  1. The Turkey
    • Everyone knows that the turkey is the key factor for most Thanksgiving Day meals! Now, it may be hard to prepare and carve a full size turkey in your RV's kitchen, but there are other options you can consider! One is you could grill a smaller turkey outside using the grill on your campground or a personal one. Or, you could buy a full size turkey, cut it in half and cook half of it for Thanksgiving and save the other half for later! Another option if you know where you are going to be on Thanksgiving day, you could call and order a turkey fully prepared from a local restaurant or store. You may want to stop reading and do that now, because many places are already overwhelmed for Thanksgiving turkeys. Finally, you could be adventurous and prepare your turkey using a dutch oven and a campfire.
  2. The Sides
    • Since you won't be feeding a ton of people in your motorhome this Thanksgiving, sides will be rather simple. One way is to only make half of the recipe of a side dish so you don't have too many ingredients in your fridge and so that you could possibly work on making two sides at the same time. Another option is to do potluck style, where you have your friends and family who are coming to visit you all bring a side or two for Thanksgiving dinner. Or you could order some sides from a restaurant or store, like the turkey.
  3. The Desserts
    • While baking a pie is not always an option, your small oven in your RV will probably be at maximum capacity, so you can try making desserts that don't require an oven. One option is to buy pies or cookies or cakes from a local bakery a couple days before Thanksgiving. Another option is to make an icebox cake where all you need to do is stick the cake in the fridge or freezer after you put all the ingredients together. Or you can make some Thanksgiving candy like the image below!
  4. Where to Stay
    • Some National and State Parks might be closed on Thanksgiving Day. This generally means that you can stay there if you are already checked in but the front office and other buildings at the park may be closed. This also varies on a park to park basis, so make sure you check with the National/State park that you are wanting to reside at to see what they will be doing on Thanksgiving day.
