Summer Destinations

Travel

Summer is finally here and I'm sure you are all itching to get out and explore in your motorhome. This list of summer destinations will send you and your motorhome from sea to shining sea!

Key West, Florida

Florida is a popular destination during the summer season because of the wide array of beaches, sunsets, and of course Disney World! Key West is not one of the main cities tourists flock to during the summer, so you can actually enjoy the beach without the swarms of crowds. The Bluewater Key RV Resort is a highly rated luxury motorhome stay in Key West.

Things to do: Visit Smathers Beach (the largest public beach in Key West), explore John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park (the first undersea park in the United States with boat tours, snorkeling, and scuba diving), or enjoy a sunset boat tour around Key West.

Fairbanks, Alaska

Alaska is a long haul for most motorhome enthusiasts but the trek is possible for those who long to get to cooler weather during the summer. River's Edge Resort in Fairbanks offers a great view and amenities at a good rate.

Things to do: Go on a hike with a husky as your guide, visit a reindeer ranch, or explore the incredible mountain views. (The northern lights are best spotted in winter, so plan a second trip!)

Yosemite National Park, California

Plan your trip in advance — Yosemite is in peak season in summer. You can stay in your motorhome at the Upper Pines campground which has a dumping station with fresh water. Note: generators have restricted hours and there are no electrical/water/sewer hookups at the sites.

Things to do: Visit Tenaya Lake, Mariposa Grove, and the El Capitan summit. At Yosemite National Park, the adventure is all around you!

Big Oak River Campground — Camp Wood, Texas

Our last stop had to be in the greatest state of all! At Big Oak River you can take a dip into the Nueces River that flows through the campground — go kayaking, swimming, tubing, and fishing. Explore nearby Devil's Sinkhole in Rocksprings and watch millions of bats take off at Frio Bat Flight. Camp Wood, Texas is a great destination for families looking for a fun weekend getaway.

Remember that places fill up quickly in the summertime, so make sure to make reservations early. Share your motorhome experiences with us using #OnTheMoveWithMOT. Safe travels!
