Your RV ensures that you only get as dirty as you want when you camp. Since it keeps you clean, it’s only fair to return the favor! We here at Motorhomes of Texas want to help you keep your RV looking good and functioning right, so we’ve put together some steps for washing the exterior of your RV. If you have any questions, or you’d like to see the RVs we have for sale, contact our store in Nacogdoches, Texas, today!

1: Gather Supplies

You’re going to need a few things to make this a successful wash. Most of the process will use materials and chemicals you’d use for any commuter vehicle, so it won’t be too difficult to get the right stuff. A gentle detergent is best to avoid damaging the paint and finish, and soft rags and a soft brush with a telescoping handle will keep your camper intact and help you reach every part of it.

We recommend a hose rather than a pressure washer. Though the pressure washer will cut down on the rinse time, it can strip finish and paint off your RV. If you do want to use the pressure washer method, be careful and stand a couple feet back to give yourself room. Never keep the nozzle focused on any one point for too long.

2: Top Down

Stick with the typical top-down method—starting with the roof. If your RV is sturdy, use the built-in ladder (or your own, if there isn’t one) and clamber on up to the roof to clear all debris before you start scrubbing. Make sure you’ve got shoes with good grip and have a spotter!

We recommend washing and rinsing in small sections to keep soap from drying on, which requires a second cleaning. This might take longer, but it’ll get the job done right.

3: Detailing

Once the main body is clean, it’s time to touch up the details. Use automotive window cleaner on the windows, windshield, and mirrors, and use a sealant conditioner to touch up all seals. This helps prevent it from drying out and cracking. Consider also cleaning and lubricating the tracks on any and all slide-outs.

Finally, if you feel like having some sparkly tires, see what your rims are made of and use a cleaner made specifically for that material. The standards are aluminum, chrome, enamel, or steel. You might even consider a tire-shine for some slick, jet-black wheels!

We hope this helps you keep your RV looking fresh and clean! If you have any questions, or you’re looking for an RV to try this with, contact us at Motorhomes of Texas. We proudly serve the people of Lufkin and Henderson, Texas—let us serve you today!
