Harvest Hosts, A Unique Way to Travel
Most RVers are familiar with camping at National Parks, private campgrounds and boondocking but many haven’t heard of Harvest Hosts yet, so we wanted to introduce you to a unique way to travel and have experiences with your RV through Harvest Host!
What Harvest Hosts is
Harvest Hosts is a membership-based program that provides access to a network of unique locations such as wineries, farms, breweries, museums and other unique attractions that invite self-contained RVers to visit and stay overnight. With a yearly membership fee, members are invited to stay at hundreds of locations around North America while enjoying their RVing lifestyle and having new experiences along the way. According to the Harvest Hosts website, the company’s goal is “to provide meaningful experiences for RVers and Hosts alike.”
How does it work?
Hosts generously allow guests to park on their properties, so Harvest Hosts ask that you support your host through a purchase- try some of their wine, buy their produce, or purchase something from the gift shop.
Who started Harvest Host?
Joel and Ashley Holland are the owners of Harvest Host who purchased the company from the original founders, Don and Kim Greene in 2018. Joel is a technology entrepreneur and his wife Ashley is a veterinarian. They are both avid RVers based out of Colorado. They love animals and travel with their two cats and ferrets when they RV.
They decided to purchase Harvest Hosts after they had spent a hundred nights RVing through the 48 lower states and found there was a lack of unique RV experiences. When they joined Harvest Hosts and stayed at incredible locations from wineries to alpaca farms it changed their RV lives.
The Holland’s describe their mission with Harvest Hosts as simple on their website: They feel that RVing provides a sense of freedom which many people seek but not many find. They said, “as cheesy as it sounds, we think we can help people live a lot happier lives if we can get them off of the couch and onto the open road.”
What is the cost?
Harvest Hosts offer two membership plans which both provide unlimited overnight experiences at unique locations throughout North America. The Harvest Hosts classic membership is $79 a year (the typical cost of two nights at a campground) and provides unlimited free overnight stays at 463 wineries, 118 breweries and distilleries, 296 farms, 207 museums and other attractions. The Harvest Hosts plus Golf membership is $119 a year
(the cost of three nights at a campground) and offers the same benefits as the classic membership and access to 357 courses and country clubs with access to spa facilities and restaurants. They have a three month guarantee and refund membership dues if members are not happy with their experience.
